Wireless auditing equipment woes

*sigh* I knew this wasn't going to be easy when I started, but I didn't expect it to be this bad.

I discovered that the AWUS051NH I wanted to get is not supported under backtrack, and some kind souls in the GIAC mailing list suggested that the AWUS036NH would suit me better. It does indeed cover 802.11 a/b/g but as I have found out this morning it only does it at 2.4GHz.

I have also just found out that the 5GHz Grid antenna I found in this post is for 802.11a only. I think this is my MIMO problem cropping up again.

I've got some irons in the fire with a couple of radio companies so I will see if that can shed some light on this. Time to hit the tubes and see if there is any way I can get those AWUS051NH's working under Linux.

I really didn't want to have to become a backtrack contributor to get this project completed, but it looks like I might not have a choice ;-)
